Welcome to Peaceland College of Education

Peaceland College of Education, Enugu is an esteemed College of Education in Enugu state with the motto “knowledge, character and service”. Established in 2014, the College offers all round quality teaching, research and public service for the production of highly motivated and skilled Graduates.

Peaceland College of Education is a project of Fredypia Development and Education Foundation, Enugu, Nigeria, whose outlook is religious with Christian principles and a missionary spirit.  The college has been founded and funded by Mama Pia, a Swiss woman.  All construction work including purchase of property and equipment at the first phase has been possible through funds donated by her. She donated all her earnings to provide education for the “total man” and for sustainable development.

The Pia und Alfred Meier Knuesel Stiftung in Switzerland has partnered successfully with the Fredypia Development and Education Foundation in the last years. Through close collaboration between both Foundations, it has been possible to realize the intention of Mama Pia in what today is known as Peaceland College of Education, Enugu, (PCEE). The Pia und Alfred Meier Knuesel Stiftung has provided technical, professional, and academic quality assurance with focus on making Peaceland College of Education, not only a center for learning, but also a center for character formation, training and overall excellence.

The primary purpose of the Peaceland College of education is to prepare its students for professional teaching and for other positions of responsibilities in education sector and the society in general. To this end, each curriculum embraces general education, professional education as well as courses leading to subject specializations. This objective is the controlling factor in the organization and development of the curriculum.  Since education is a continuing process it must be pursued throughout life if the individual is to grow in intellectual and mental spheres as well as in wisdom. In harmony with the above, the college exercises its responsibilities to the teaching profession by accepting and retaining only those students who demonstrated promise for professional growth and services. To finally qualify for graduation the students must not be found wanting in learning and character.

Peaceland College hopes to ignite and sustain education and development from a religious background and a missionary spirit. Enlightened by Christian principles and following the steps of Jesus Christ, we are living the mandate of Christ “Go to the whole world and make disciples of all nations” by using education as a medium of conversion, evangelization and mission. Our mission is to sanctify the world and man, renew the face of the earth and create a stronger democratic and Godly society through education. We believe that the prophecy of Christ about Himself of the year of the Lord’s favor as foretold in Isaiah 61: 1-2 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for captives and release from bondage for prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” is possible through the instrumentality of good education.  This corresponds with the philosophy of our founder.

Peaceland College of Education, Enugu is an autonomous public institution registered and certified by National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and charged with responsibility of providing liberal higher education and encouraging the advancement of learning throughout Nigeria.

Peaceland College of Education is affiliated to the reputable Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (Anambra State University). Peaceland College of Education is founded and funded by a Swiss woman - Mama Pia.

Mama Pia visited Enugu Nigeria in 2008. During her stay in Enugu, she was overwhelmed by the crushing poverty, lack of opportunity and access of the Nigeria people especially the youths to quality education.

Mama Pia decided to support the development process in Nigeria through the provision of sustainable education.  She went ahead and made a will donating all her life earnings to support education through Teacher Education in what today is Peaceland College of Education, Enugu.

During the process of implementation of this college project, it became clear that the available funds donated so far by Mama Pia will not be able to bring the college to the finish line. She approved that her private residence in Switzerland be sold and all the money accruing there from be transferred to Nigeria to continue construction work, purchase of equipment and furniture and finishing of the College. She died that others may live.

Having sold her own only house, Mama Pia moved into a one bedroom apartment in an old people’s home. In this one room she spent the rest of her life, each time thinking less about herself and thinking more about her black brothers and sisters in Enugu, Nigeria.

Where other people saw opportunity to reap, Mama Pia saw opportunity to sow.  Where others saw weakness, Mama Pia saw strength. Where other people saw opportunity to exploit, she saw opportunity to sacrifice. Where others saw threat, Mama Pia saw Grace. Where other people saw opportunity to give up, Mama Pia saw opportunity to get up. Where others are reservoirs, Mama Pia became a river that knew no boundary.

She believed in Nigeria more than she believed in her home country. She believed in Nigerians more than she believed in her own natives.  She had a dream and went ahead to visualize it, refusing at each time to be stopped by Negative Energies. She held firm to her credo that the Way to Eternal Life is the Way of Love.

Mama Pia died in September 2012, but like Jesus the Christ, she lives. Her life was characterized by fear of God, Sacrifice, Modesty and Love of the Least of these Brethren.

The college shall continue to be driven by the same spirit that moved and inspired Mama Pia. May Perpetual Light shine upon her and may she rest in God’s Peace. Amen.
