In a resounding display of intellectual prowess and argumentative finesse, Peaceland College of Education, Enugu has clinched the top spot in a fiercely contested inter-school debate competition among higher institutions in Enugu State.
The competition, organized by the Nigerian Students Legislative Council, was held on Saturday at Mama Pia Hall, Peaceland University, Enugu.
The eight institutions that participated in the keenly contested debate included:
Peaceland College of Education, Enugu
Enugu State College of Education (Technical)
University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC)
Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)
Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu
Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)
Federal Cooperative College, Oji River
The final topic for the debate was:
“Capping Agency Legal Fee at Ten Percent is Negatively Impacting the Real Estate Sector.”
The Peaceland team, made up of talented students Akpan Helen, Hyacinth Chizoba (team leader), and Chiemezie Praise, delivered a masterful presentation. Their argument was marked by in-depth research, critical thinking, and effective communication. The team skillfully dissected the topic, backed it up with compelling evidence, and impressed both judges and the audience.
In a tightly contested final round against Enugu State College of Education (Technical), the Peaceland team stood out for their clarity, coherence, and persuasive power, ultimately earning them the top prize.
Reacting to the achievement, Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Leo Chidi Ilechukwu, Chairman of the Governing Council, Peaceland College of Education, Enugu, described the victory as a testament to the college’s unwavering commitment to fostering intellectual growth, critical thinking, and communication skills among its students.

He further expressed pride in the debating team’s success, adding that this achievement—like many before it—will continue to inspire future generations of students to engage in meaningful intellectual discussions. Mr. Usulor Jacob, Dean of Student Affairs, congratulated the debating team on their exceptional performance and encouraged all students to take part in extracurricular activities that promote academic and intellectual development.
Akpan Helen, a member of the victorious team, praised the school management for providing a supportive environment that allows students to thrive. She dedicated the victory to all students of Peaceland College of Education, Enugu.
It is worth noting that Peaceland University, Enugu also recently emerged overall winner of the Enugu Tech Festival HACKATHON, organized by the Enugu State Government, taking home the ₦1 million grand prize after defeating eleven other higher institutions....
